KEYNOTE SPEAKERS:

Ing. Stacy Hammond, Ph.D. – Researcher (Crop Research Institute, Prague) and Coordinator for the European Regional Unit of the Young Professionals for Agricultural Development (YPARD)

As a young Researcher at the division of Plant Physiology and Cryobiology (CRI) Prague, Stacy puts into practice the knowledge and skills obtained within her studies and feels as though she contributes to society by saving plant biodiversity for the present and future generations through the cryobanking of endangered species. Her work entails developing new in vitro techniques that ensure the safe storage of crops such as garlic, shallots, potatoes, raspberries, and many others that you would never think are in danger of becoming extinct! While at the same time working with an international movement such as YPARD which has the mission to enable and empower young agricultural leaders to shape sustainable food systems. She also considers this a dream job! Here she not only gets to work on something she believes in but also gets to contribute to making a difference in the way young people perceive agriculture as a career path. Her work at YPARD revolves around creating a space for young agricultural professionals to have active participation (in all agricultural related events), to be given a voice that ensures that the decisions being made are by youth for youth in agriculture and opportunities that enable them to reach their full potential.

Associate Professor Ing. Hynek Roubík, Ph.D.

He is the founder of Biogas Research Team and its Group Leader. He deals not only with aspects related to biogas, but also with waste management issues in general. Assoc. Prof. Hynek Roubík participated in numerous research and development projects throughout the world as project leader or expert (i.e. Czechia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Georgia, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and others). He does research especially in Waste Management, Environmental and Ecological Engineering and is an editorial board member of several journals. He is the author of over 50 peer-reviewed (indexed) research papers. He is also editor or associate editor in several scientific journals. He worked as an expert on demand for several organizations, such as the UNDP or the European Commission. REGISTRATION

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SPEAKERS ABOUT THE ORAL AND POSTER PRESENTATIONS

Guidelines for Oral presentations:

Please prepare a 10-minute PowerPoint presentation (.pptx) and be ready for a follow-up 5-minute question round. If you have made any changes to your submitted presentation, please bring a USB flash disk (no external hard drives). You will be allowed to upload the new version before your presentation (during the 10 minutes before your session at the latest).

The Oral Sessions will take place in lecture or seminar rooms of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences (building MCEVII) on the CZU campus. There will be approximately four oral presentations per session. You will have a chance to compete for a financial prize with the other oral presenters in your subtheme. The ELLS Scientific Students Conference will have several parallel Oral, Poster and Campfire sessions. Your oral presentation will be scheduled under one of the 1-hour slots for oral sessions of the subtheme you chose. The specific time is on the Session Schedule below (available as PDF at the bottom of the page). There is no option to make any changes to the times in the session schedule.

Guidelines for Posters:

Please prepare, print and bring with you a presentation of your scientific work on an A1 format poster (594 × 841 mm). Posters have to be printed by the presenters themselves. There will not be a chance to print them on the spot during the conference. A poster requires a combination of text and graphics based on your specific topic and the presented scientific work.

You will be able to hang your printed poster on designated areas for your poster session upon arriving for registration at CZU Prague. The posters will be grouped by the various subthemes and will be hanging as a gallery during the whole time of the conference. Conference participants will browse through the poster gallery and study the information on the posters.

The Poster Sessions will take place in hallways on different floors of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences on the CZU campus (building MCEVII).

During the 50-minute poster session, you will have an 8-minute poster pitch of your work and about 2-5 minutes for a follow-up question round. There will be approximately five poster presentations per session. You have a chance to compete for a financial prize with the other poster presenters in your subtheme. Your poster presentation will be scheduled under one of the 50-minute slots for poster sessions of the subtheme you chose. The specific time is on the Session Schedule below (available as PDF at the bottom of the page). There is no option to make any changes to the times in the session schedule.

The ELLS Scientific Students Conference will have several parallel Oral, Poster and newly also Campfire sessions. There will be no option to watch the presentations online.

Campfire sessions are designed to create a relaxed environment and to stimulate storytelling over a 50-minute session focused on one of the subthemes. Each SSC subtheme (11) will have a campfire session that will be facilitated by the Subtheme chair (an expert in the field of study) and an experienced PhD student in the field. Both the chair and the PhD student will share their story and experience with becoming a researcher in that particular area. Students will have a chance to pose questions, discuss the topic openly and network with other future researchers in the same field of study.

What is the ELLS Scientific Student Conference?

The ELLS Scientific Student Conference 2022 will take place on the 23rd and 24th of September.

Every year, the Euroleague for Life Sciences invites students from ELLS and ELLS-partner universities to participate in the Scientific Student Conference (SSC). This year's main theme is The Interconnectedness of Things: A Path Towards Sustainable Solutions. The two-day frame of the SSC is an excellent opportunity for students to feel the flair of a scientific conference and get to know many different people - students and teachers - from various fields and universities. Students can either present their scientific work in the form of a poster session or an oral session. Within the poster sessions, students will present their work as a poster. In the oral session, students will give a presentation and answer questions about their research. Students will get constructive feedback on their presentation and work from peers and experts and might even win a prize.
